Our Story

Built in Our community, for Our children.

The Ingenious School began with a conviction generations in the making: that a spark of brilliance is already present in every child — it simply needs the right air, fuel, and care to catch.

"We don't hunt for gifted kids. We spark ingenious ones."

As an innovation microschool by design, we keep classes small and learning high-touch, so teachers know each student deeply and no child slips through the cracks. STEAM isn't a subject here — it's the way we think, make, and solve together.

The school is the founding campus of BE Ingenious, a Houston-based 501(c)(3) that has served 1,000+ students through 50+ STEAM experiences alongside 30+ community partners — and the first step toward a network of ingenious schools.

A Letter to Families

From our Founder.

Dear Families,

The Ingenious School is deeply personal to me.

I am a fourth-generation educator, sixth-generation Texan, and the product of a family that has long believed in the power of education to transform lives. During Reconstruction and Jim Crow, my ancestors in Columbus, Texas, donated land, time, and resources to help establish one of the first schools for Black children in their community — because they understood that education was a pathway to opportunity and freedom.

That legacy continued through my parents. My mother, Jewell Dillard Brown, dedicated more than 30 years to Houston’s public schools. My father, Rudolph Brown, a veteran and proud native of Houston’s historic Third Ward, was among the first students to attend Ryan Middle School during a pivotal time in our city’s history. From them, I learned the values of service, perseverance, and creating opportunities for future generations.

As an educator and a mother of three, I founded The Ingenious School from a simple belief: the greatness I want for my own children is the same greatness I want for every child.

I believe every child deserves to be seen as brilliant, challenged to reach their full potential, and prepared not only for college, but for leadership, innovation, and life.

The Ingenious School was created to provide an identity-based, technology-driven, future-focused education where students develop confidence, character, creativity, and purpose while exploring the possibilities of the future.

This school is my love letter to Houston, to the generations who came before me, and to the children who will shape what comes next.

Thank you for trusting us with your greatest gift.

With gratitude,

Rochelle Brown Anderson, M.A. Founder & Head of Ingenious Ecosystem · The Ingenious School
